Theater Scrim is used for several on-stage special effects, many of which can be seen used with this scrim as shown.
Reveal Effect Scrim Actors/performers behind the scrim are revealed by lighting them. Performers are hidden by lighting the front of the scrim while keeping the area behind the scrim dark. Note: Chameleon scrim is far easier to use to hide people behind the scrim than ordinary scrims. However, no scrim is easy to make opaque.
Scrim for Diffusion Scenery and props behind the scrim appear to be more distant.
Shadow/Silhouette Screen Scrim A little used stage technique is to place distant scenery in silhouette. This allows the use of small set pieces, instead of entire full-scale set pieces. Also performers can be played in silhouette--as in the famous opening of Music Man.
Projections Screen Scrim Chameleon™ scrim is a better projection screen for front or rear projection than ordinary scrims.
